THE work of international artists will bring a “sparkle” to the district this weekend as the Cheriton Light Festival returns for its second year. Cheriton High Street will be closed for the festival, which will take place between 6pm and 9pm on both days, and will end with a fireworks display at 8pm tomorrow (Sunday).

Catch the bus with a teacher over to the neighbouring town of Broadstairs. See where Charles Dickens lived, have a freshly-made icecream at Morelli’s and walk alongthe cliff top before returning back to Margate.

There is Cinema Club tonight so students have the choice of going to the Carlton Cinema and enjoy one of the new movies, for as little as £2.80. The royal old building was once Westgate’s town hall but is now one of Europe’s cheapest cinemas.

Enjoy a day trip to Dover with fellow students to see its famous castle. Take a tour round the keep, climb to the top for a great view of France, visit the secret wartime tunnels and watch all the ships and ferries travelling across or along the English Channel. Alternatively join fellow students on a trip to Ashford designer village.

Fancy trying a locally produced beer or cider in a micro-pub? Then join fellow students for a pint at The Lifeboat and experience the real British pub atmosphere! It’s a great opportunity to talk to local people and learn more about the British way of life. Meet outside the school at 19:30 and walk down to the Old Town.
