One of the key features of our Academic team is the degree of hands-on support offered to students from the moment they arrive until their departure. This is an ongoing process of communication with all students, including feedback questionnaires at various points during their stay. Students are also welcome to express their opinions to their classroom teacher, particularly if they have concerns over their placement and class level. In addition, fortnightly tests and a system of 1-to-1 tutorials enable us to assess and monitor the progress of all students, ensuring appropriate classroom provision.
For students who wish to add additional elements to their learning programme, our self-study centre, open weekdays from 8:45am to 9:30am, 11am to 11:30am, most of the day from 8:45am to 5:30pm and on two or three evenings from 7:45pm to 9:45pm, offers the ideal practice opportunity, with assistance from staff available whenever necessary.
Welfare
One of the most important aspects of our role as a school is to ensure the welfare and safety of our students, both teenagers and vulnerable adults. English in Margate and Leo Languages have specific policies that address these two areas of student welfare.
Our Safeguarding and Prevent Policies looks at student welfare from a physical and emotional point of view by adhering to British core values:
(i) democracy
(ii) the rule of law
(iii) individual liberty
(iv) respectful tolerance of different faiths or beliefs.Any concerns or incidents, however small, should be reported to one of the people responsible for implementing the Safeguarding and Prevent Policies. At school, students are encouraged to speak to their teachers, to their Group Leaders or to the Accommodations and Welfare Officer Louise Chipperfield, who is the Designated Safeguarding Person for EiM. At home they can talk to their hosts as a first point of contact. For Homestay families with concerns they should contact the Accommodation and Welfare Officer directly.
Louise can be contacted by phone (01843 227700 ext. 211) or email ([email protected]). Please call directly on 07493 766173 or alternatively the 24/7 Accommodation Emergency number: 07944 998916.
If both numbers are unavailable or unable to help, you can contact Adam Wilton, Owner. Adam can be contacted by phone (01843 227700 ext. 9202) or email ([email protected]). 24/7 Emergency number: 07939 208591.
Please be assured that all concerns will be treated confidentially.
