Our Homestay Hosts

English in Margate can be proud of homestay hosts we have for our students.

Nice homes and locations are important but what is vital is the warm welcome our students receive and the hospitality offered by our hosts . We feel that all our homestay hosts offer these qualities.

We believe that sharing mealtimes and common living areas with the homestay host, as well as being included in homestay activities at weekends is really what makes the students’ stay more memorable.

Sharing day to day life with a native speaker is the only way to immerse oneself, not only into the language but also into the culture. Part of the Accommodation Managers role is to seek to build strong bonds between the student and the homestay hosts… To this end we strongly encourage a relationship based on mutual respect.

The consistently excellent feedback and repeat business we get from our students bears testimony to these key factors. Below is a testimony from one of our recent students that arrived quite late in the evening to her homestay hosts:

“my host family’s son left me on the night I came a very nice drawing on my bed because I was late to arrive home, to tell me how he is so happy to receive me . I had before a problem with dogs but now I love dogs too much because of my host family’s dog that I love and she loves me too much.”

Most of our homestay hosts are within 30 minutes walking distance from the school – an opportunity to take in the sea air along our lovely coastline if you enjoy walking. For those that do not enjoy walking, of course, we do also have homestay hosts who live very close to school.
